Get to Know… Fleur Shore
One of the finest young talents to break through in recent years, Fleur Shore makes her Dubai debut at our Ibiza Global Radio 95.3 UAE Beach Festival, on Saturday 1st October. With sets that blend all the good bits of ’90s house with her own unique approach, the young DJ and producer’s career is blooming.
Birmingham lass Fleur Shore has gone from — in her own words — “playing to no-one” to dropping killer sets to thousands at clubs and festivals all over the planet. She recently played to 4000 people at Horse Park Festival, in Switzerland, “sandwiched inbetween Luciano and Seth Troxler”. Fleur recalls: “It was absolutely incredible to play between two legends like that. The party was crazy and the energy was just so, so good.”
Armed with fire cuts laden with ’90s house sounds, Fleur Shore can take credit for ramping up the energy wherever she plays. “This is a sound I grew up on,” she explains. “If I watch any old videos, like home videos, this music is always blaring in the background. It’s always been around me. I started raving in Birmingham when I was 16 or 17. Tom Shortez — a good friend of mine — is a DJ I really looked up to at the time and I still really look up to him. I went to his Mr Jangles parties and he’d play what he called ‘’90s snipers’. So that was the sound I was listening to when I first started raving and it just reconfirmed my love for ’90s house.”
Exhilarating
With Ibiza Global Radio 95.3 UAE Beach Festival on the horizon, Fleur is excited to experience Dubai for the first time. And she’s going all out to make her time in the Emirate exhilarating. “I’m going to book in a skydive,” she grins. “It’ll be my first skydive too, so I’m scared and excited.”
Her main priority though is to make sure everyone, and she means everyone, at our Beach Festival has a good time. “My main goal when I play is to make sure everybody’s energy is on the same frequency,” she explains. “What I usually do is focus on certain individuals when I’m playing. If I see their energy is quite low, my focus becomes bringing that individual up. And I’ll do that for each person, really. Just try and bring them up and make sure they’re having a good time because music is such an incredible thing and it can make you feel so, so happy.”

The dancefloor moment that changed my life was…
…about five years ago. I was living in Ibiza for the season and I watched Carl Cox play at Privilege. I think he was only doing two dates there. There was a tree in Privilege and I climbed to the top of it. I stood in the tree, just watching him play. He dropped this really heavy techno track and it just literally made me burst out crying. I’ve never had an experience like that. It made me think, ‘Wow! This is definitely what I want to be doing’.”
My first DJing gig was…
…when I was 18 years old. I used to play in a bar in the small English town of Ashby. I played there every week for about a year to no-one. In fact, I played to absolutely no-one for the first two years of my career. To be honest, it was quite soul destroying every single week but I knew DJing was my passion and that I wanted to continue with it. So I just had to carry on going.
The best producers on the planet are…
At the minute, I’m really feeling Tripmasters, DJ Sneak and Phil Weeks… it’s just that house sound. Some of Tripmasters’ stuff really incorporates a ’90s element to the tracks and it’s really cool. But that’s a very hard question because it’s hard to even limit to three.
The vocalist I’d most love to work with is…
…a girl called Greentea Peng. She’s from London and her voice is absolutely insane. Her music is so nice. It’s super chilled but if you listen to some of the lyrics that she talks about, it’s straight-up facts. So check her out. She’s definitely someone I’d love to work with.
My go-to record to lift a flat crowd is…
…the ‘Mount Rushmore Superfly Mix’ of Lovebeads’ ‘This Is The Only Way’. The track has a really cool intro and then the vocal is super trippy but it’s really nice and housey at the same time. It always, always brings people up.
The best advice I’ve ever been given is…
…just be a nice person. This is so fundamental to me, not just in my career but in everyday life. There’s always someone that can be helped. It’s not all about you. It’s about us together. And that’s something I live by.
The only thing I’d rescue from my burning house is…
…my dog. I love her so much. I love animals, generally. So she’s definitely the first thing I’d rescue.
The rest of my year is…
…looking super, super exciting. I’m a UK artist but I haven’t got any UK gigs booked in now until December. This is the type of thing that dreams are made of, you know. You work so hard and then things finally start to happen. To be out of the country every single week is incredible. And to see parts of the world, it’s amazing. I’m playing Croatia this weekend and then next weekend I’m playing Toronto, which is really cool as I’ve never been to Canada before. I’ve got some other stuff coming up in Europe and then, of course, I have Dubai, and then Thailand. In November I’m doing a three-week tour in South America, which I’m super excited about as I’ve only ever been to Ecuador in South America before. Yeah, there’s lots of stuff coming up. I’ve got some really cool releases coming. It’s a very exciting chapter in my life and I’m very happy.”
